Ankylosing spondylitis symptoms and pathological abnormalities

Typical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (Table 2): chronic low back pain, morning stiffness and spinal limited range of motion. Low back pain is usually on both sides of the sacroiliac joint (Sacro-iliac joints, SI joints), as a sciatica can sometimes seem like the next leg extension. Serious at the sternum - rib junction also tenderness. Spinal stiffness and limited range of motion, the rest more obvious, particularly for the morning (usually more than one hour), in patients with severe pain in the middle of the night and wake up feeling stiff. After the campaign is to reduce symptoms, and this can be the general structural distinction between low back pain (Table 3). Sometimes patients will be the cervical and thoracic spine pain and stiffness. In addition to the above axis joint symptoms, most patients with peripheral arthritis at the same time - in violation of the hip (thigh and pelvic junction) the most, nearly a quarter of the patients with AS violations of the hip; followed by the knee and shoulder (non-infringement of the surrounding small joints). Occasionally there are (20%) tendon, ligament and bone inflammation of the junction also important manifestation of the good and the Department of plantar heel. A small number of patients with extra-articular symptoms - there will be major violations of the eyes, kidneys, heart, lungs, etc. (8). Including uveitis and iris inflammation (uveitis) occurred in 20% of AS patients, symptoms of congestive eye irritation, blurred vision, blindness may be serious. About 15 percent of the AS patients with glomerulonephritis immunoglobulin A (IgA nephropathy), but, fortunately, most of the minor asymptomatic hematuria, only a handful of patients with renal dysfunction. Heart violations mostly asymptomatic and mild aortic atresia incomplete, or block. As for the lung fibrosis is extremely rare. Serious disease and poor control, the end result of spinal fusion, a bamboo-shaped, resulting in deformities, hunchback (7). Spinal fusion, because of the loss of flexibility, become easier to fracture, or causing nerve compression.
